Julia Wollrab - Dancer
Born in St. Louis, U.S.A. she completed her studies at the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto and in 1987 entered the National Ballet of Canada later becoming a soloist. She has participated in creations by William Forsythe, James Kudelka, Glen Tetley and others as well as interpreting roles in the ballets of Jiri Kylian, Kenneth Mac Millan, John Neumeier, Balanchine, Cranko, Bournonville and Marius Petipa. In 1995 she joined the Ballet du Grand Theatre de Genève where she has performed the works of choreographers such as Amanda Miller, Ohad Nahain, Michel Kelemenis and Nacho Duato. She also participates in creative projects outside of the theatre.
Lucy Nightingale - Dancer
Born in Great Britain she now lives in Geneva. Having completed her training at the Royal Ballet School of London Lucy Nightingale made her début in 1987 with the Ballet de Vichy under the direction of Jorge Donn and Kevin Haigen. In 1989 she joined the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, soon to be cast by Maurice Béjart in ballets such as "The Ring of Wagner", "Freia", "Firebird", "Pyramides", "The Rites of Spring", "Mallarmé III", "Boléro". Béjart also created roles for her in "Hamlet" and "Charlie Chaplin", roles which were to reveal her talents as an actress. She participated in several productions by the dance company Linga before joining the Ballet of the Stadttheater in Berne. In the course of a programme with various guest choreographers she first worked under the direction of Philippe Olza in "La création du monde" by Darius Milhaud. She subsequently pursued her career at the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève dancing in the ballets of William Forsythe, Ohad Naharin, Twyla Tharp, Amanda Miller, Lionel Hoche, Pascal Riout, Etienne Frey and Michel Kelemenis.
Marc Hwang - Dancer
A renowned artist and dancer. His education took place at the Ecole de Danse de Rosella Hightower in Cannes, his stage debut at the Jeune Ballet de France. There he quickly caught the attention of Maurice Béjart who engaged him for the following season at the Ballet of the 20th Century. He became a principal dancer with the company, most notably in soloist roles conferred on him by Jorge Donn. He subsequently turned to a more contemporary style and met up with the Swedish choreographer Mats Ek of Cullberg Ballet in Stockholm. There he was entrusted with on the spot roles which demand a strong technique and a keen sense for dramatic interpretation. On his return to Switzerland he joined the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève as soloist, where he continues his exploration within the field of dance, involving himself with different dance styles and new experimental works. He is also photographer.
Affetti Ardenti - Ensemble for baroque music
The ensemble was founded in 1992 and aims to render baroque music accessible to a new audience. Voice, flute, viola da gamba and harpsichord permit a faithful interpretation of the music of the epoque. which is especially faithful to its dramatic aspects. The name Affetti Ardenti was in fact associated in 17th century Italy with the concept of particularly expressive passionate music. The ensemble in its new constellation is composed of musicians who have known one another since their student days at the Music Conservatory in Zürich and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Their repertoire comprises compositions by Claudio Monteverdi, Giulio Caccini, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Henry Purcell and many others.
Sara Maurer - Mezzo soprano
Maurer lives in Zürich. Born in Sion she was interested in dance and movement from an early age. Her artistic training commenced in earnest at the Scuola Teatro Dimitri. As a comedian she most notably appeared at the Théâtre Populaire Romand in the productions "Par dessus bords" by M. Vinaver and "Princesse Brambilla" by E.T.H Hoffmann. At the Théâtre de Vidy in Lausanne she featured in "La Belle Hélène" de J. Hoffenbach. She then took Master classes in voice at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève with Ursula Buckel, D. Hall and G. Linos. Following this she became a member of the Basler Madrigalisten. She plays the leading role in the "Gilgamesh Epos", original music by Peter Sigrist and devotes her time principally to old music, singing and improvisation e.g. with Alfred Zimmerlin and Christoph Gallio. She is remarkable for her capacity to cross artistic boundaries experimenting with drama, sculpture and dance. A founding member of Affetti Ardenti, she has taken part in the first stage of "Madame Monsieur" at the Swiss Institute in Rome.
Margarete Kopelent - Harpsichord
Resident in Zürich. Born in Cracow she studied piano and harpsichord at the Cracow Conservatorium under Prof. Ludwog Stefanski and Elzbieta Stefanska-Lukowicz. Moved to Switzerland in 1984 where she continued her training to concert level at the Zürich Conservatorium taking master classes in harpsichord with Johann Sonnleitner. Further studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basle with Andreas Staier und Jesper Christensen. Recordings for radio and television. Appearances at several international music festivals in Brazil, Germany and Switzerland. Margarete Kopelent is actively involved with the Musikkollegium of Wintherthur. A founding member of Affetti Ardenti, she performs ancient and modern music both as soloist and member of chamber orchestras. She lectures at the Zürich Conservatorium. She has taken part in all performances of Madame Monsieur to date. She has taken part in the first stage of "Madame Monsieur" at the Swiss Institute in Rome.
Maya Amrein - Cello
Born in Lucerne she studied cello at the Winterthur Conservatorium completing her studies as a teacher and orchestral performer. Further training to concert level at the Berne Conservatotium. Longstanding interest in baroque performance technique. Has taken master classes with Jaap ter Linden and John Holloway. Presently completing post-graduate studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis under Christoph Coin. Maya Amrein teaches at several colleges of music and frequently performs with various ensembles, e.g. La Cetra Basel, Kammerensemble Lucerne or Cappricio Basel, to name but a few.
Rebeka Rusó - Cello, viola da gamba
Originally from Bratislava, she comes from a long line of musicians. Completed her primary studies at the Bratislava Conservatorium followed by studies with Danièle Alpers in France and Wieland Kuijken at the Royal Conservatorium in Brussels graduating in 1996. Further studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Paolo Pandolfo (Gamba) and Christoph Coin (baroque cello). Master classe with Jordi Savall. Prizewinner of the 1st international "Bach-Ambel" Gamba competition in Köthen in 1997. She performs with baroque ensembles such as La Petite Bande, Hespérion XX, II Fondamento, Musica Aeterna Bratislava, Les Goûts Réunis, Le Parlament de Musique and Labyrinto. Radio and CD recordings for Panklassik/Radio DRS, Fnac Music and Accademia Musicale Chigiana Siena.
Ludwig Frankmar - Cello
Born in Malmö he studied cello with Guido Vecchi. Further studies at the Maria Grey College in London where he performed for several years as an orchestral musician. Collaboration with the Symphony Orchestra of the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona. Soloist with the Göteborg Opera House. Further studies wuth Chrichan Larson and Karine Georgian. Completed his diploma as soloist with Thomas Demenga at the Music Academy of Basle. Soloist with the Camerata Berne and Musica Vitae. Presently concentrating exclusively on the repertoire for solo cello. His principal focus is on baroque and contemporary music.
Leonardo Muzii - Flute
Born in Bethesda/Maryland, USA he studied piano with T. Feninger de Rogatis followed by cello studies at the Conservatorio S. Pietro a Majella in Naples. A self taught flautist he took further lessons with Kees de Clerck at the Rotterdam Conservatorium. Teaching diploma in 1989, soloist diploma in 1990. Leonardo Muzii is a frequent prizewinner at various international flute competitions. Studied chamber music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Founding member of La Scatola degli Aghi. Performs in Europe and in Japan. Radio and television recordings. Teaches at the Berne Conservatorium for Music and Theatre, the Biel Conservatorium and at the State College of Music in Karlsruhe.
Tommaso Rossi - Flute
Rossi took his diploma in flute at the Conservatory of Music of Naples. He attended Mario Ancillotti's flute masterclasses at the School of Music at Fiesole obtaining his final degree with distinction. He is first flute in the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti of Naples. After attending Paolo Capirci's courses at the Conservatory of Latina, he obtained his diploma in recorder with special distinction. He also attended recorder masterclasses in Bologna with Pedro Memelsdorff. He is currently attending the chamber music courses held by Jesper Christensen at the Schola Cantorum of Basel. He is member of the Capella della Pietà dei Turchini, baroque ensemble directed by Antonio Florio. In that capacity he has recorded CDs for "Opus 111" and played as a soloist in various international festivals (Utrecht, Barcelona, Schleswig-Holstein, Seville, Bremen, Ambronnay). He has played with Alan Curtis Il Complesso Barocco and Carlo Chiarappa’s ensemble Risonanze. He is one of the organizers of the Dissonanzen musical project.
Frank Hinzmann - Lighting design
Born in Hagen /Germany. In Basel since 1990. Freelance
theatre technician, light designer and production manager.

Director and Light Designer at the Theatre Festival Basel.
Agnes Weidkuhn - Costume design
Born and resident in Basle. Has designed costumes for theatre (e.g Od Theater Basel - H.-D. Jendreyko, Schauspielhaus Zürich), dance (TanzTheater Basel, Joachim Schlömer), for many shows and performances in Switzerland, Germany and Italy. Agnes Weidkuhn has already collaborated with Philippe Olza on several different productions e.g. "Les Appétits variés d’Adelheid Z", Kaserne Basel / "Imagine", International Trade Fair Orbit Basel. She is a founding member of Werkraum Warteck pp in Basle (a former industrial complex which is now an arts co-operative). She is a key figure in the development of the concept "Madame Monsieur" and was specially as costume advisor to the first stage of the project at the Villa Maraini in Rome (Swiss Institute).
Silvie Büchel - Production assistance / Coordination
Born and resident in Basle. She has travelled extensively and speaks several languages, including Arabic and Persian. She is active in a wide variety of fields. Having completed her teacher training in drawing at the Basel College of Design she went on to study Multimedia at the Hyperstudio/CIM-Zentrum in Muttenz, Switzerland. Subsequently she obtained a Masters in Oriental Studies and Art Theory from the University of Basel. She lectures in Art History at the Basel College of Design and also works in Public Relations as Coordinator and Photographer.
